Honda is pretty busy working hard on its promise to build sedan and small-crossover variants of the upcoming Fit subcompact. The next generation of the Mexican-built Fit is expected to appear in showrooms in 2016, and the new 2017 Honda Urban comes a year later. When it comes to the size and price of the Urban, it will slot beneath the magnificent CR-V, so basically it will belong to the same league as the Kia Soul and the Nissan Juke. The newcomer will have aggressive style but still, it will be sophisticated and attractive. The sense of the aggressiveness is just at the right level. With its new design and all other qualities, the new generation of the Urban is closer to the Juke rather than Soul’s modern funkiness.
2017 Honda Urban Exterior
The new generation of the Honda Urban 2017 looks more sporty and aggressive. It boasts a semi-circular, coupe-like roofline and the artificial two-door appearance. Its door handles are disguised in the C-pillar trim. The production car won’t probably get as sexy roofline as the concept, but we anticipate seeing something very similar on it.
The front fascia of the vehicle is decorated with the same grille treatment as the latest Accord. The headlights have also received a good treatment and now look sharper than ever. Both sides of the vehicle get two sharp-looking character lines that extend from the front to the rear fender. We would describe the new Urban as the “acurafied” version of the Juke, except that it is not Nissan’s. The 2017 Honda urban will use the Fit’s Global Compact Series architecture.
Honda Urban 2017 Interior
The first we noticed and the thing we particularly like about the 2017 Honda Urban is that its designers have cleverly broken the side-window shape of the roof to get more headroom space. Moreover, since the new Urban will ride use the Fit’s Global Compact Series architecture, we assume that it will have centrally located fuel tank just like the Fit.
The fuel tank will reside below the driver’s seat, so there will be more floor space. Therefore, the Urban will have folding/flipping/flattening Magic Seat rear seats for eking out more cargo space. More details about the interior design of the 2017 Honda Urban are going to be forthcoming.
Engine of the new Honda Urban
The company was pretty reserved when we asked them about the Urban’s engine and unfortunately we didn’t get an exact word from them. There are some rumors that under the bonnet of the 2017 Honda Urban will be a 4-cylinder 1.8-liter power unit. This engine generates 138 horsepower and 127 lb-ft of torque.
It will ensure excellent fuel economy being rated at 40 mpg with front-wheel-drive system and 38 mpg with all-wheel-drive system. Two transmission options are available, a CVT transmission and a 6-speed-manual transmission. The 6-speed manual unit is can have only front-wheel drive, while the latter can have both.
2017 Honda Urban Release date and price
We must say that the Urban Concept looks really great and the good news is that Honda doesn’t change much of their concepts before reaching consumers.
The production car will go on sale sometime in 2016, and details about the price are forthcoming.
