The current generation of the Civic Type R is not old but the company decided for refreshment to keep it competitive and to increase sales. The current generation is on the market for only 4 years and still, the company is working on the new iteration. A test mule was finally caught on a test ride in Nürburgring and now we know what exactly we can expect from the 2017 Honda Civic Type R. Good news for Americans, they will be able to get their Type R too. The company pulled covers of the vehicle at the 2015 New York Auto Show. Even though we still do not know all details, spy shots give us some indications as to what will be changed.
2017 Honda Civic Type R Exterior
The spy shots we got reveal that the new generation of the Type R won’t be much different from the current one, at least in terms of design and shape. There will be some new details on the vehicle just so you could point out that it is a fresh model. The front end will be completely new, now sporting a more upright Honda logo. Side air inlets will be placed under the headlights.
Vertical brake ducts will be added too. Moving to the back, you will see a new spoiler. You will also notice that the rear end seems to be a bit lower. The three, center-mounted exhaust pipes along with two large pipes are the most noticeable change. The rear doors will also be revised. The old C-pillar-mounted handles are replaced by pull-style handles.

The spy shots clearly reveal what has been changed in terms of exterior, but unfortunately, we still don’t know what the 2017 Honda Civic Type R brings to table in terms of interior. There is a great possibility that the cabin will still be a sporty place with partly analog gauge, partly digital cluster.
Also, red and black accents with contrasting stitching will probably be offered. The 2017 Honda Civic Type R is a performer but it is primarily a hatchback, and it has a lot to offer as such. The cabin will come with folding rear seats and it will offer ample of cargo space.
Honda Civic Type R Engine
The engine of the 2017 Honda Civic Type R is still filed under speculations because the carmaker hasn’t said a word about it. The current model is powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder direct-injection engine, a VTEC valvetrain system, and a single-scroll turbocharger. The combo is good for kicking out around 306 hp and 295 pound-feet of torque.
It is quite possible that the new generation of the Type R will be powered by the same, but improved version of the engine. If this happens, we can expect horsepower to improve to 315 hp. The level of torque will also be increased to 300 pound-feet. it will be able to reach 0-60 mph in five seconds.
