With new Acadia remaining basically unchanged, all eyes will be focused on the next one which should finally do something about it. While exact details are still unknown, 2017 GMC Acadia will certainly be a second generation model. What changes is it going to bring, remains to be seen?
2017 GMC Acadia Performance
For now, it seems that GMC Acadia 2017 will ride thanks to the same powertrain unit. 3.6L V-6 engine might be tuned somewhat differently in order to put up more than 281 hp and 266 lb-ft of torque. If this doesn’t happen to be the case, turbocharged 4-cylinder or even turbo six might be chosen. It seems that GM will manage to prepare their new 9-speed automatic gearbox by the time new Acadia arrives which should tweak crossover’s performance a little bit.
Exterior of GMC Acadia 2017
While Acadia resembles truck-derived SUV’s, it is far from it. Being driven through front wheels is proof enough. Next-gen models will likely be built upon the new Chi platform which is set to be shared between numerous GM’s crossovers. Actual design layout falls in pure speculation category at this time, but expect revised frontal and rear ends.
New grille, headlamps and bumper should be enough for new Acadia to distance itself from current models, and rear end will likely follow the similar recipe. It wouldn’t surprise us if new platform manages to cut down some of Acadia’s weight which, together with new transmission, bodes well for crossover’s fuel economy ratings.
New GMC Acadia Interior
Interior will likely remain similar in terms of refinement, but you can easily expect revamped cabin with new materials all around it. Cloth and leather seats will continue to be offered, and Denali grade should continue with unique perforated leather which further brings seat heaters and coolers. 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot is now rooted in every single Acadia, no matter if it’s Denali or entry-level SLE-1 trim. 2017 GMC Acadia will likely offer new 7-inch touch screen display with optional navigation and other goodies.
Top models will even add rear seat entertainment system, though as optional feature. Bose 10 speaker premium sound system will take care that rear passengers enjoy the optional system, while base models come with standard 6 speakers. Even safety features are supposed to be bolstered by some additional options. New Acadia will now offer a rearview camera, rear park assist, blind spot monitors, rear cross-traffic alerts and adaptive cruise control.
2017 GMC Acadia Engine
Fuel economy figures of 17/24 mpg with front and 16/23 mpg with all-wheel drive will likely be increased slightly. We have already mentioned why that is so. Prices, on the other hand, shouldn’t rise much. $35,000 should be enough for a new entry-level Acadia, while top Denali models in all-wheel drive should cost $50,000.
2017 GMC Acadia should definitely exhibit some improvements over the outgoing models. After all, it is a next-gen car. Still, what exact kind of improvements are we talking about, no one can tell for certain. It only remains to wait and see what the future has in store for us and Acadia alike.
