Starting with the release of the first Tesla, the electric car market made a massive leap towards increasing the range of the electric cars. The 2015 Volkswagen e-Golf follows the exact same concept as the first Tesla in order to achieve good mileage ratings without sacrificing performance or usability. The car will be based on the normal Golf but unlike it, it will feature only an electric motor, putting it in the same class as the Leaf.
2015 Volkswagen e-Golf Price
The price of this fully electric 2015 Volkswagen e-Golf is going to be around 36.000 dollars which is actually slightly less than its competitors. The release date will be at the end of November 2014, when it will be launched along the new Passat.
Engine of 2015 Volkswagen e-Golf
Engine wise, the 2015 Volkswagen e-Golf will only feature a small electric motor in the front and a 24.2 kWh battery which has no less than 264 cells which are cooled by water in order to keep the reliability on par with the petrol powered models. Thanks to the big battery, the car will be able to travel up to 100 miles which is just about the average of the current generation of electric cars. However, VW is offering for around 550$ a fast charger which will get your electric Golf from 0 to 80% charge in less than half an hour. However, if you do that, only expect as much as 70 miles of operational range!
The electric motor is good for 110 horsepower and 200 lb-ft of torque which is quite good and thanks to the one speed transmission, it will be able to get up to a maximum top speed of as much as 90 miles per hour and it will be able to get from 0 to 60 MPH in less than 10 seconds, which is quite good for a car that offers up to 100 eMPG!
On the inside, the 2015 Volkswagen e-Golf will be offering similar equipment levels as the Highline version, meaning that it is basically a top end Golf with an electric motor. Expect a seven inch navigation and infotainment system, seats that offer great lateral support and also a smaller 4 inch screen between the two dials in the dashboard. This will offer information about the electric range and also different stats of the electric drivetrain.
2015 Volkswagen e-Golf exterior on the other hand will be a bit different. For example, it now uses Xenon and LED headlights and tail lights in order to save power. The front end has been altered with LED fog lights and also a different front bumper which improves the aerodynamic coefficient. Thanks to it and low friction tires the noise while driving the car will be much lower than that of the normal car.
