The RAV4 is one of the few cars on the market which still offer one of the best experiences as far as family cars go. It is based on a saloon model so the ride quality is quite good for a small sport utility vehicle but it still offers the usual good performance no matter the driving surface. The 2015 Toyota RAV4 is a mid-life update of the car which was released back in 2012, so Toyota has a few things to change about it.
Firstly, the chassis is now a bit stronger and the suspension is looser in order to give for a much more comfortable driving experience. You might thing that because of that the car might suffer in terms of performance and you would be right but let’s not forget that it is a family car and performance isn’t that high on the check list. In fact, thanks to the newly tuned chassis, it sits even better in corners than before, so the body roll has been kept to a minimum.
2015 Toyota RAV4 Engine
Engine wise, the 2015 Toyota RAV4 still offers a single engine which is quite unfortunate considering all of its competitors are also offering more powerful engine as well as more efficient ones. The one in the RAV4 is a 2.5 liter inline 4 aspirated petrol engine which is good for up to 176 horsepower and almost 170 lb-ft of torque.
The power delivery is smooth and thanks to the 6 speed automatic, it is able to get almost 27 MPG on average which is as good as it gets for such a car. There are disadvantages though. The engine lacks any kind of top end power and because of the automatic, it isn’t that fast. This could be improved by adding another engine to the range. Four wheel drive comes as a 1400 dollars option which is pretty good considering the competitors which offer it at more than 2000 dollars.
There are now rumors about it getting a 2 liter turbocharged inline 4. This would not only offer a lot more power but it will also have a better fuel consumption thanks to a more refined 8 speed automatic. Unfortunately though, Toyota still hasn’t said anything about the official release as of now.
Toyota RAV4 2015 Interior
On the interior, the Toyota RAV4 2015 is as good as it gets. The seats are comfortable and even though the design isn’t the most amazing of the bunch, it offers a really nice combination of good materials and minimalistic styling.
Standard features include dual zone automatic climate control system, an infotainment system which also acts as the audio system, cloth upholstery, leather steering wheel and even a sunroof on certain models. The top end ones though get panoramic roof, standard satellite navigation and even leather upholstery.
Exterior of the new Toyota RAV4
There isn’t much to talk about the exterior of the 2015 Toyota RAV4. Over the previous generation, the only real change is the front fascia which now received a new grille. This is slightly larger and thanks to a new pair of headlights, the car looks wider than it is when looked at from the front. Its wheels also got a bump, the top end model now offering 18 inch alloys as standard.
2015 Toyota RAV4 Price
One of the strong points is its price which make it a real bargain as far as small SUVs go. The 2015 Toyota RAV4 base model will cost only $22,000 while a fully equipped one around $30,000. Even though it is offered at a good price, it also offers quite a nice equipment level. The official release for the 2015 model has been all the way back in the summer. However, the availability is scarce and it is expected to come into showrooms in good numbers starting with January 2015.
