The Hilux has been regarded as one of the toughest and most versatile pickup trucks in the World but it has never really been available in the Americas. However, this is about to change because in one form or another, the Hilux is going to become a Global model which is going to be sold in the US as the Tacoma with a slightly revised design and in the rest of the World it is simply going to be called the Hilux. The 2015 Toyota Hilux Diesel is just a refresh of the older model but this is about the change with the 2016 model which is likely going to get a new chassis, new engines as well as a much better interior.
The current model has been launched all the way back in 2005 so it is quite old by any standards. However, this isn’t that bad for some people because it means it is a tested chassis which won’t let you stranded. The diesel version is going to receive a slightly better engine which will provide a bit more power and it will also be now compliant to the new emission laws. A new engine might come in a future model, but more on that later.
2015 Toyota Hilux Diesel Engine
Engine wise, the 2015 Toyota Hilux Diesel is going to be available with two different engines, depending on the market it is going to be sold in. Firstly, the Global model will get a very similar 3 liter inline 4 diesel to the older generation. This received a small bump in power to 180 horsepower and 370 N*m of torque which should be more than enough for what most people need. However, it is starting to show its age and due to its limited towing capacity, there are now better alternatives out there. The American version on the other hand is likely to get a 2.8 liter Cummins supplied inline 4 with 160 horsepower and more than 470 N*m of torque. This might also come on the Global model at a latter date which would make the Hilux competitive once again.
Toyota Hilux 2015 Diesel Performance
While these Toyota Hilux Diesel 2015 two engines are good they aren’t really as fuel efficient as some others in this segment. Because of this Toyota might develop for the future a smaller and also more efficient 2 liter turbocharged diesel which with a bit of help, it might be good for 180 horsepower and more than 400 N*m of torque, offering the perfect balance between fuel consumption and performance.
Interior of Toyota Hilux Diesel
On the interior, the 2015 Toyota Hilux Diesel is going to be very similar to the older model which isn’t ideal because that is an already aged interior which isn’t up to the current standards. Fortunately though they improved the materials so it is not offering soft touch plastic, leather upholstery on some models and easy to clean upholstery on the base model. Standard features now include a small navigation system, a 4 speaker audio system, electric seats and windows and even a heated windscreen in some markets. There are also two 12V sockets on the interior and an 110V or 240V plug in the bed on the Utility model.
2015 Toyota Hilux Diesel Exterior
2015 Toyota Hilux Diesel exterior has been slightly changed in order to show the upgrades it went through. The front fascia now features different headlights with included Xenon as standard and a small LED strip which acts as the daytime running lights. The back has a single lateral exhaust pipe and a set of LED tail lights. The tailgate now rests on elastic straps and a mechanical system which won’t let it loose, so the possibility of the operator getting hurt from it is now next to nothing. The wheels, just like before, are 16 inch alloys with all terrain tires installed as standard.
