2015 Subaru Forester Review

2015 Subaru Forester featured

With a starting price of just $22,000, the 2015 Subaru Forester is a tough SUV to beat, especially when you take into account that at this price it comes with an all wheel drive system which pretty much makes it the only option out there. The 2015 model is just a refresh of that released in 2012, but with a few tweaks and tricks which still make it a viable competitor on the market. This new car features a slightly different look with more up to date headlights and tail lights, the same engines as before but with a differently tweaked suspension system and gearbox which are surely going to give it a nicer ride than before.

Exterior of the new Subaru

Let’s start our review with the exterior because this is where the Forester is more different than it competitors. Unlike the usual SUV in its class, the Forester actually has usable approach and departure angles as well as a higher than average ground clearance meaning that it is not only suitable for bad weather use but also for light off-road which may come in handy in more remote areas.

The base model will come with HID fog-lamps, LED daytime running lights as well as tail lights. The spare wheel is under the rear bumper but can be removed and replaced with a kit upon request. This will further increase ground clearance by another ΒΌ of an inch.

2015 Subaru Forester Interior

On the interior, Subaru Forester 2015 will be a bit better than before, meaning that Subaru finally abandoned the old hard and cheap plastic for a much softer one with better durability than before. This and the new fabric for the upholstery as well as the better level of equipment should make for a better ride.

The 2015 Subaru Forester is going to come with dual zone automatic climate control, a TFT screen which controls the audio system, Bluetooth and even electric front seats as standard. Options will include a satellite navigation system, leather upholstery and even a panoramic roof. The only drawback here is that the navigation system is quite expensive and pretty bad, so you would be better with an aftermarket one.

Subaru Forester 2015 Engine

Engine wise, 2015 Subaru Forester will come with two different units. The base car gets a 170 horsepower and 175 lb-ft of torque 2.5 liter boxer 4 engine which feels quite snappy and will offer a decent fuel economy of around 24 MPG. The only drawback here is that it is offered either with a 5 speed manual which is good but quite rough and a CVT which won’t allow for manual gear change. The better of the two must be the manual, but this depends highly on the driver’s preference.

The option is a 2 liter turbocharged flat 4 which is very similar to that in the older WRX. This engine will be offering 250 horsepower and a bit more than 255 lb-ft of torque and it will be mated to a CVT gearbox which can emulate either a 6 or 8 speed gearbox. This also feature paddle shifters as well as an automatic knob which allows the driver to select the desired mode. Both of these engines come as standard with four wheel drive and limited slip differentials. The only drawback of the 2015 Subaru Forester is that it still won’t be offering a hybrid version in the US.
