2015 Subaru Crosstrek Review

2015 Subaru Crosstrek featured

The 2015 Subaru Crosstrek is a medium size crossover from the Japanese manufacturer which aims to compete with cars such as the new Juke or the Jeep Patriot and win. However, being a car based on the Impreza, it isn’t exactly the cheapest of the lot. The 2015 model is going to feature a few improvements over the older generation, most of which are also going to be found on the Impreza. Firstly, the styling has moved to the present with a few design notes which make it look better while the engines received a minor update which doesn’t do all that much, but more on that later.

2015 Subaru Crosstrek Engine

Engine wise, the Subaru Crosstrek 2015 comes in two different flavors. The base car come with a 2 liter boxer engine which develops 148 horsepower and 150 lb-ft of torque which will give it an average fuel consumption of around 24 MPG which is quite the average of its class. This engine is mated to a 5 speed manual which offers good feedback but it is quite rough at higher speeds. The other option is the same petrol engine mated to a CVT gearbox and a small electric motor which adds around 13 horsepower over the initial rating.

However, this doesn’t mean that it is faster. In fact, it is a full 2 seconds slower to 60 miles per hour than the petrol engine due to a limited gearbox and an extra 450 pounds which are associated with the battery pack. The only good thing about the hybrid version is that it can offer around 27 MPG on average but this quickly goes away when you think that it is almost 3000 dollars more than the base car. The great thing about it though is that the 2015 Subaru Crosstrek comes with a four wheel drive system as standard which is unique in its class and very good for a crossover which looks as tough as it.

Subaru Crosstrek 2015 Interior

On the interior, Subaru didn’t really did much with it. The dashboard as well as the seats are identical to those in the Impreza while the general feel of the interior is that of a cheaply made car. This is because Subaru has been using cheap and tough plastics from the beginning.

Even the leather upholstery option comes with the same cheap feeling plastic inserts that the base car has which is a shame, especially when you take into account that the option alone will add almost 2000 dollars to the price of the car. Standard equipment includes air conditioning, a 4 speaker audio system, dirt resistant upholstery as well as electric front seats. Options will add a satellite navigation system, a better audio system, leather upholstery and also a panoramic roof.

Exterior of the new Subaru Crosstrek

The new Subaru Crosstrek exterior on the other hand will remain mostly unchanged. The only different of the 2015 Subaru Crosstrek over the previous model will be the new rear end which now uses LED tail lights and a cleaner tailgate.

On top of that, the black plastic inserts on the sides of the car still make it look tougher than it is while the front is identical to that of the older model. There are plans of giving it a refreshed look, but in a future facelift.

2015 Subaru Crosstrek Price

The best thing about it is that it is pretty much the biggest car of its class which may or may not be the best thing out there. The base price of the Crosstrek hovers around $22,000 which is not that expensive but when you considering the Juke which is almost $2000 less and offers pretty much the same, you start to wonder. The release date for it has been announced to be in the first quarter of 2015 when it will be available in showrooms.
