The S400 hybrid has been a constant car in the US until 2013 when it has been retracted for the market in the favor of other models. However, there are plans for a 2015 Mercedes S400 Hybrid which would be similar to the S500 model but with a few major differences which would make it aim different cars. Its main competitors would be diesel powered versions of the A8 or even certain hybrid American cars.
2015 Mercedes S400 Hybrid Engine
Engine wise, there are a few major differences between it and its bigger brother. Firstly, the 3 liter turbocharged V6 has been switched for a bigger 3.5 liter aspirated V6. This is less powerful, at 306 horsepower and nearly 280 lb-ft of torque. The electric motor has also been changed for a smaller and less powerful unit that will provide up to 23 horsepower and around 100 lb-ft of torque. The total combined power would sit between 310 to 315 horsepower and up to 350 lb-ft of torque which should be more than enough to get the 2015 Mercedes S400 Hybrid from 0 to 60 MPH in less than 7 seconds and up to a maximum top speed of 155 MPH.
Unlike the S500, the S400 won’t offer the possibility to plug it in and charge it because it only has a set of batteries that will recharge during braking. Because of this it is not possible to use it in solely electric mode, so it has a slightly higher fuel consumption of around 37 MPG on average.
Interior of Mercedes S400 Hybrid 2015
Its interior will be nothing short of amazing. Just like with all the Mercedes S Class, you will get leather upholstery, aluminum or wood trimmings inside the cabin, electric front and rear seats with ventilation and massage system and also two screens in the dashboard, one for the satellite navigation system and one for the night visibility system.
Mercedes S400 Hybrid 2015 Exterior
The exterior of the 2015 Mercedes S400 Hybrid on the other hand will impress by its unassuming look. The car will be quite similar to the normal S Class, the only major differences would be the type of wheels which now have a unique design and the new front bumper that is meant to reduce the drag coefficient even more.
2015 Mercedes S400 Hybrid Price and Release Date
Mercedes S400 Hybrid 2015 price would be quite a bit lower than that of the plug-in hybrid, so expect to pay anywhere between 80 to 100 thousand dollars. This is actually a fair price for this car considering everything you get with it. The release date for this new hybrid is set to be at the end of 2014 or in the Spring of 2015 and it will be released at the same time with the S500 Hybrid and the new B Class Electric.
