The Honda Ridgeline was one the market for almost 9 years when it was decided that the production of this model will stop. This was due to a low volume of sales which Honda said that it is no longer profitable to keep the car in production. However, even though the model was discontinued, there will be a new one which will be available starting with the end of 2015.
The 2015 Honda Ridgeline Pickup will be a brand new model which is said to be designed from the ground up. Honda even said that they are trying to improve the small pick-up truck market by moving from the old SUT style to a standard pick-up truck design. They even released a small teaser which clearly shows the profile of a 4 door pick-up with a small bed which Honda says that it is the new Ridgeline.
2015 Honda Ridgeline Pickup Price
We don’t have any real information on the car’s price or actual release date but we think it will cost no more than $24,000 for a base model which is quite a bit less than the older model. This is due to the fact that it will be a compact pick-up rather than the bigger SUT style. The release date is expected to be either at the end of 2015 or in the early 2016 in which case it will be marketed as a 2016 model year.
Engine wise, it is expected to feature an all new engine choice. Some people even say that it will get a very similar engine option as the current CR-V, but this is highly unlikely because the CR-V is a front wheel drive car. The new 2015 Honda Ridgeline Pickup is likely to get a newly developed 2 liter inline 4 with around 190 horsepower. A turbocharged version is also expected, version which would provide around 240 horsepower and as much as 270 lb-ft of torque, not only making it more powerful than the older car but also more usable thanks to a new body-on-frame design and a much higher towing rating.
As far as we know, its competitor will include the Amarok as well as a few US based card, so the Ridgeline will have to be quite impressive in order to get out on top. The transmission available with the base engine is likely going to be a 6 or 8 speed automatic which would give it an edge over the competition. The only drawback of the 2015 Honda Ridgeline Pickup is likely going to be its four wheel drive system, mainly because there isn’t one announced just yet. So far Honda stated that it will be available with rear wheel drive and that’s it.
On the 2015 Honda Ridgeline Pickup exterior, the car is going to be a lot more different that what it is currently on the market. Some even suggest that it will take design cues from the current CR-V which would give it a more premium look than that of the older model. The front of the car is likely to get LED daytime running lights, considering its class while the back will get a medium size bed which will be on par with the rest of the trucks in its class.
2015 Honda Ridgeline Pickup biggest advantage will be the interior which as far as we know will be a full blown 5 seat interior, larger than that of the other small pickups. This will surely give it an edge over the competition as well as expand the general public it is aimed at. We think that it the Ridgeline will be a hit when it will be launched thanks to a very roomy interior, good cargo space as well as powerful and fuel efficient engines.
