The 2015 Honda Civic Type R has been one of the most appreciated hot-hatches in the World for many years at a time but their current model didn’t manage to impress their customers due to a high weight as well as a slightly underpowered engine which was no match for the turbocharged European hatchbacks. However, the 2015 Honda Civic Type R is going to be the biggest update the R badge will receive to date. It is scheduled to be available for sale in the first quarter of 2015.
Honda Civic Type R 2015 Engine
As far as we know, the front suspension has a special design which gets rid of torque steer and makes it a lot better to drive. Engine wise, the 2015 Honda Civic Type R will only be available with a brand new VTEC powertrain. This 2 liter engine will be turbocharged for the first time in the model’s life. Honda didn’t release any actual information on it just yet but they promised it will make at least 280 horsepower and 290 lb-ft of torque.
Considering its competitors, we actually expect it to come with more than that, so 310 horsepower or more are not out of the question. Unlike all the other hot hatches today, Honda said that a dual clutch gearbox or even a normal automatic are out of the question. They instead opted for a 6 speed manual gearbox which is said to be one of the best manuals today. This will be coupled to the front wheels via a limited slip differential which should allow for some pretty great driving experiences.
2015 Honda Civic Type R Performance
As far as the performance goes, the 2015 Honda Civic Type R will likely hit the 60 miles per hour mark in less than 6 seconds and it will have a maximum top speed of over 150 miles per hour. Honda also said that a dual-clutch gearbox might be available as an option, gearbox which will lower the 0 to 60 time even more but it will have a smaller top speed compared to the manual due to the different gearing.
Interior of Honda Civic Type R 2015
On the interior, it will be quite similar to the current Civic, but it will also feature a few different items which are unavailable on the base car. Firstly, the front and rear seats will now be supplied by Recaro and will feature great lateral support as well as they will support a 4-point harness. The dashboard will be identical to the base car with the only difference being the steering wheel which is a 3 spoke wheels wrapped in leather and with a flat bottom that gives it a much better feel on the track.
Honda Type R Design
Being based on the latest generation of the Civic, the Type R is going to be slightly bigger than the current generation as well as lighter thanks to the use of aluminum in the roof and certain body elements. The running gear will also be heavily modified in order to accommodate the more powerful engine and the unique gearbox.
The exterior of the 2015 Honda Civic Type R on the other hand will be visibly different than that of the base model. It will feature flared arches, 19 inch wheels with super-sport tires, a massive rear wing as well as a rear diffuser which will help keep the car in check at high speed. The front has a very aggressive front bumper with a splitter included in it, a red grille with the R logo illuminated as well as LED headlights as standard. At the back, a dual exhaust system and LED tail lights will be standard features.
